By: Matthew Marcone

James and the North Shore is a Canadian band performing in the Okanogan, Shushwap, British Columbia area and they have recently returned from their first cross country tour

Their style is a combination of Alt/folk, alt/country and alt/pop.

basically twangy make out songs for sad people,” said lead songwriter, rhythm guitarist and vocalist James D. Bryan.

Over the past year, the band has been travelling hours each week in order to meet up, jam and develop their own unique sound. Bryan has been writing songs since childhood and has been increasing production over the past seven years.

He and Ryan Wallberg – the band’s bass player who looks like Leonardo DiCaprio – have been playing together for several years.

Bryan met Steven Boyd – drummer who looks like Rodney Dangerfield – at a music festival and “liked the cut of his jib.” Boyd comes from a family of musicians and is drawn to other musicians and people who are open to new ideas.

One night when the trio were jamming, Lead Guitarist Dominic Bouwman stopped by and according to Bryan, “played like 30 notes before we were like, ‘wanna be in our band man?’”

Below is a sample of their song, “So Cold” performed in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
